I want to first and foremost say that this post is not sponsored in any way, shape or form. I am merely commenting on a product that I recently discovered and cannot live without.
My new favorite bath/shower time product is the Spongelle. I first discovered it when I was scrolling through Instagram and came across a sponsored post for this. The comments were a lot of people saying they received it in their FabFitFun and enjoyed it. I never really paid mind to it, but it did look interesting.
Fast forward to the present, I decided to try FabFitFun using a friend's promo code. One of the add-ons to the box was the Freesia Pear Spongelle. I decided to go and add it just to see what the raves were about.
First and foremost, the sponge smells fantastic. The Spongelle is basically a sponge made out of biodegradable and organic compounds that is saturated with body wash. Spongelle also makes its own signature formula for the body washes that it saturates its sponges with, so the body washes contain moisturizer, body wash, exfoliator and cleanser all in a single sponge. I love this, but I do not use moisturizer for my body a whole lot since I have very oily skin.
You activate the product in the sponge by wetting it. Now, when the sponge is first opened, it's hard and rocklike. You basically have to wet the sponge thoroughly the first time you use it, to get it nice and soft. However, considering the sponge has a finite amount of cleansing product in it, I wouldn't squeeze it too much, lest you waste the cleaning product.
At first wash, I did not care for the sponge. It was very abrasive and I felt that it made me sticky when stepping out of the shower (hence the moisturizer in the cleansing product, most likely). However, my husband used it when he showered the next morning and said that he felt the sponge was very soft and he didn't feel sticky. My husband, like myself has oily skin.
I used the Spongelle the next time I showered with it. I wasn't about to throw it away either, being that the sponge is not cheap. This time, the sponge felt a lot softer and I did not feel as sticky when stepping out of the shower. I also noticed that I smelled terrific. I guess you have to just break in the product for it to continue working for you. Since, then I have been addicted.
As you know, we have our condo in Baltimore and our weekend home on Cape Cod. For our Cape Cod home, I bought directly from the Spongelle website, their Beach Grass scented sponge. I highly, highly recommend this scent. It smells HEAVENLY. I can't stop smelling myself or the sponge after I step out of the shower and it makes the bathroom smell like a breezy day at the beach.
The product comes with a ribbon to hang the sponge in your shower, to allow it to properly drain. This is crucial, because as with anything that does not have a chance to aerate properly, it could grow bacteria otherwise. The directions say to squeeze the excess water off the sponge. I would not do that though, as I noticed this also sloughs off much of the precious cleansing solution.
The sponge is good for 14-24 washes, so about 2 weeks to a month. I purchase mine in large quantities whenever Spongelle has a sale, to keep in my towel closet handy. The scents I recommend are Beach Grass, Freesia Pear and Yuzu. I love fruity and fresh scents, but the website has a whole list of scents to choose from.
Happy bathtime! If you use it, shoot me an email and let me know how you liked it! I also bought one for my best friend, my sister-in-law, sister, mother-in-law, mother and grandmother. I can't wait to hear their reactions too, especially since it's beautifully packaged in the cutest box and is great for gift-giving.
