I had the amazing opportunity a few days ago to be featured as a guest on the Hawaii-based real estate talk show, Soldier to Soldier Realty. The show basically is centered around everything real estate and offers fun advice, tips, tricks and market information regarding real estate and is a must-listen for any real estate investor, property owner and basically anyone who has to pay any type of property tax!
You can listen to the recording for my segment here:
(If you are listening on a mobile device, you should open it via Google drive instead of listening to it on the browser directly. For some reason, it doesn't play on platforms such as Safari).
Being on a radio talk show sent a slew of emotions through me. I was originally asked to appear on the show back in November. When I was first approached through my business manager arranging the appearance for me, I first thought, "okay, I suck at public speaking. How am I going to do this?" After that thoughts such as "what do I talk about? What if I blank out on the air?" began running through my head.
Well, the day came for the recording to happen. I remember being called and as I was waiting for my segment to be recorded, I thought, "remember that girl from the Howie Carr show? Channel her!" (The Howie Carr show is a radio talk show my father in law listens to. This is not a sponsor for the show). I remember I just breathed in and out and channeled the robust personality of this girl and the confidence that she embodies whenever she speaks and I just...went with it!
Everything came out fine and after I got done with the show, I called my mom (of course). The recording for the show wasn't actually going to air until the following evening (which was last night). The radio talk show host (being I'm on the mainland) sent me the iHeartRadio link to me so I could share it with family and friends on the mainland.
I tell you, listening to myself on the radio talking about what I do for a living was so empowering. The feeling is just the best feeling in the world and you absolutely feel as if you are ready to take on anything. Any lack of confidence I may have previously had was restored. It is also such a humbling experience, as also listening to yourself on the radio makes you think, "ugh, I apologize to everyone who's ever had to hear my voice before!" I hope nobody could hear the twang of nerves in my voice as I spoke.
I called my mom right after it aired and I cried with tears of joy. My husband was already asleep, so thank God for recordings. I then after I got off the phone with my mom called my best friend. He and I had a lot of laughs and jokes. I couldn't think of a more perfect experience, but also a more humbling one.
All in all, this experience from being asked to appear, to recording and appearing on the talk show to hearing the show and having a lot of people who I don't know, who I probably will never meet, listening to me share the modicum of advice I can share to everyone in general, not just my clients was amazing and humbling. It taught me that I can be capable of great things and reminded me that even though I have still have so many goals, so many things that I want to accomplish and that seem so far away it's demoralizing, to also be aware of how much I have also accomplished so far and to remain humble and grateful.
Also, sorry to everyone who lives in Kalihi! I didn't mean everywhere in Kalihi is ghetto LOL! Although my husband's Jeep did get stolen IN KALIHI and found a few months later without its tires!
Everyone on the talk show was so incredibly nice. Celester Thomas and Barbara De Lucca are the hosts and both of them are so incredibly warm, amazing and fantastic to work with as well as listen to! I can't wait for their next segment to air and hopefully I didn't make too much of a fool of myself that I can hopefully be back again one day :)
The show airs on FM94.3, on the station called The Answer. You can also access it through the iHeartRadio app.
